Two Carmine Residents Die in Accident

A couple from Carmine died in a traffic accident on Hwy. 290 Monday.

According to a report from the Texas Department of Public Safety, the accident happened around 11:54 a.m. at the intersection of Hauptstrasse St. and US 290.

The report said a 2012 Ford Escape driven by 79-year-old Joyce Ullrich of Carmine was stopped at the intersection of Hauptstrasse and US 290. The vehicle attempted to cross the highway when a 18-wheeler heading west on 290 struck the left side of the Ford.

The driver of the Escape and a passenger, 81-year-old Ilo Ullrich of Carmine, both died in the crash. The driver of the 18-wheeler, 57-year-old George Collins of Chappel Hill, was not injured.
