Fayette County Sheriff Keith Korenek reports that on July 22 around 10 a.m. Drug Interdiction Investigator David Smith conducted a traffic stop on a 2020 Kia traveling westbound on I-10 near the 663 mile marker for a traffic violation. As Smith approached the vehicle it sped off west bound and a pursuit ensued.

The Kia exited in Flatonia on the west bound feeder road and drove into a field as two AR-15 rifles were thrown from the vehicle. The pursuit of the Kia continued westbound back on to I-10 and came to a stop at the 661 mile marker.

A felony stop was conducted and taken into custody was 25-year-old Peter Cabrera Jr. and 17-year-old Luis Jerry Cabrera of Laredo.

Both subjects were transported to the Dan R. Beck Justice Center and charged with evading arrest and detention with a vehicle, possession of marijuana and unlawfully carrying a weapon.

Assisting Smith with the pursuit was Drug Interdiction Sgt. Randy Thumann, Traffic Enforcement Deputy Rick Bohlmann, Deputy Ken Kretz and Flatonia Police Officer Cody George.
