Storm Winds Pack a Punch Here

Astorm cell with powerful winds passed over La Grange Thursday afternoon, July 16. Strong winds knocked down several trees around La Grange.

La Grange ISD superintendent Andy McHazlett shared the photo, above left, of a downed tree at a house on the corner of Madison and Guadalupe Streets in La Grange.

Winds damaged the outdoor area at Back Porch BBQ in La Grange as well (center photo, above).

Fayette County Emergency Management Coordinator Angela Hahn said she heard no reports of tornado activity.

Jason Runyen, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service, estimated that the storm winds peaked at 60 miles per hour.

Thursday’s storm added a half inch of rainfall to the more than six inches that fell earlier in the week.

From Monday night until Wednesday afternoon the temperature never got out the 70s here.

But the cooler, wet weather of last week gives way to a forecast of the first 100 degree temperatures of the year this week.

However, a tropical storm brewing in the gulf could bring more rain to central Texas by Friday.
