Steinhauser Honored for Life-Saving Heroism

Alex Steinhauser was recently recognized by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department as the Region 2 Park Police Officer of the Year for 2025 – and he has also earned the Director’s Life Saving Citation for his heroism earlier this year.

Alex is the son of Willie and Jamie Steinhauser of Fayette County. His grandparents are Helen and the late Otto Steinhauser of Flatonia, TX, Julia Berdoll of Bryan, TX and Marlene and the late Robert Laird of Colmesniel, TX.

Here’s the formal citation for Steinhauser’s heroism: For exceptional conduct and courage on March 14, 2026, during an active shotsfired incident at Port Aransas Beach Road, Texas State Park Police Officer Alex Steinhauser responded promptly to an unsecured scene involving five gunshot victims. He helped maintain scene security working with Texas Game Wardens, he assisted in identifying injuries, stabilizing the victims and preparing them for transport. Officer Steinhauser’s calm judgment, teamwork and devotion to duty amid danger, contributed to preserving five lives and reflects credit upon himself, State Park Police Officers and the State of Texas.
