Sodium Hydroxide Liquid Spills On Highway 290
Fayette County Sheriff Keith Korenek reports on Tuesday morning, Sept. 1 around 8:47 a.m. the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office was contacted in reference to an 18-wheeler on U.S. Highway 290 westbound just west of State Highway 237 in Washington County that was leaking sodium hydroxide liquid.
Washington County emergency services closed the U.S. Highway 290 westbound lanes and traffic was diverted on Highway 237 to Loop 458 through Carmine. A hazmat team responded from the Houston fire department to contain and clean up the spill. Texas Department of Transportation was notified along with deputies March Bennett, Rick Bohlmann, Constable Roger Wunderlich and DPS Trooper Cpl. Patrick Mladenka, who assisted with traffic control in Fayette County
Fayette County officials sent out a notification to area residents. The incident was cleared and lanes of traffic opened after approximately four hours.
