So Far, 1,342 LG Students Opt for In-Person Instruction

At Monday’s meeting, the La Grange school board voted to develop an new policy stating that for a student to participate in any extracurricular activity, practice, or performance or elective course open only to students participating in a particular UIL activity, the student must be enrolled in in-person classes at the time of participation for the 2020-2021 school year.

Last Friday was the deadline for parents to fill out a form for the district declare what format their student would opt to be learning to begin the school year:

As of Tuesday There were still approximately 180 students that the district had not heard from, which the school was still trying to contact. Of those who responded:

• 1,342 students had elected for in-person instruction--75.8%

• 400 students for online -- 22.6%

• 28 students not returning to school in the district--1.6%

Additionally Monday the LGISD school board voted to enter into an agreement with Operation Connectivity (a joint effort between Governor Greg Abbot, the Texas Legislature and the Texas Education Agency) to help students get electronic devices and reliable internet connections. This program is part of the $200 million the state has received in Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act. La Grange ISD is eligible to

La Grange ISD is eligible to receive $68,300 for 200 devices and 100 hotspots. Matching funds will cover half the cost, so the District will fund the other half of the order at $34,150.

In other LGISD news, Sue Smith, longtime La Grange ISD physical education teacher is leaving for a coaching job in Flatonia. Action on her replacement will be taken at next week’s board meeting. La Grange teachers report
