Seatbelts May Have Prevented Serious Injuries in Wreck

No one was seriously injured in a wreck at the dangerous intersection of Interstate 10 and US 90 east of Schulenburg.

The wreck happened around 2:55 p.m. on Tuesday, June 2. According to a report from the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office, a brown 2001 Ford F-150 pickup driven by 33-year-old Daniel Janak of Hallettsville was heading east on Hwy. 90. The pickup attempted to turn left onto the west Interstate 10 access road.

At that time, a white 2014 Ford Expedition, driven by Gerald Black, 81 of Gonzales, was heading west on Hwy. 90. The front of the expedition struck the passenger side of the pickup as it turned.

Air bags deployed in both vehicles. The Sheriff’s report said everyone was wearing a seat belt.

The pickup was carrying two passengers, 22-year-old Hannah Grier and 7-year-old Hunter Janak. Fayette County EMS treated everyone at the scene, but no one required hospitalization. Schulenburg Volunteer Fire Department also assisted at the scene.

Deputy Joe Gonzales investigated the accident. He did not issue any citations.
