RTC Hosting Senior Parade

The communities of Round Top and Carmine will be holding a special parade to honor their seniors Friday, May 8.

The 21 seniors will be spaced (socially distant) in front of the high school, and the parade of well wishers will depart at 5:55 p.m. from the Round Top Rifle Hall, escorted by a constable and fire department personell from both communities, and they will process past the seniors to wish them well (nothing can be thrown during the parade).

RTCISD Superintendent Brandon Schovajsa said being able to organize such an event is “one of the blessings of being at a small school. ” Another benefit is being able to have weekly online meetings amongst the entire senior class.

Schovajsa said he met remotely with all the seniors last week to assure them they would have an in-person graduation if at all possible.

“I told them we want y’all to have closure, and we want it to be in person,” Schovajsa said. “We don’t want to do something virtual ... We will push it back if we need to. I told them y’all are living in a unique moment in history. For years people will remember this senior class. I told them to keep things in perspective, people are sick, people are dying. At the end, if you are healthy that’s how you want to your senior year to end, and that’s the most important thing.”
