RT-Carmine ISD Announces Return Safety Plan

Round Top-Carmine ISD has a plan in place for safely reopening school beginning Aug. 24. Campuses will have staggered start dates. On Monday, Aug. 24, only grades 10 through 12 and grades four through six will be allowed on campus. On Tuesday, Aug. 25, grades seven through nine and Pre-K through grade three will attend classes, while the others stay home. No bus transportation will be provided these two days. Normal bus schedules will resume on Wednesday, Aug. 26, when all grade levels return to campus.
There are many safety precautions for both travelling on the bus, on campus and in classes. Go to the school website at www.rtcisd.net for detailed information.
Virtual Learning is an option, with daily attendance requirements applied to this form of instruction also. If you choose distance learning, please contact Mrs. Kuecker or Mrs. Schoen no later than Aug. 14. Students may choose to switch from distance learning to in-class instruction at the end of a six-weeks grading period.
Comet Neowise
Take a look at the night sky to see Comet Neowise. It is visible at around 9:30 p.m. towards the north-northwest. Look below the Big Dipper when the sky is very dark. It was to have been closest to the earth on July 23, but is still expected to be visible through the end of July. Check it out online.
This is the fourth comet I have seen. The others were Halley’s Comet in 1986, which is scheduled to return in 2061; Hyakutake in 1996, with return in about 14,000 years; and Hale-Bopp in 1997, with return in the year 4637. The next sighting for Neowise is calculated to be 6,800 years from now.
Carmine VFD
The Carmine Volunteer Fire Department appreciates any cash donations, since they cancelled their feast and fundraiser. The mailing address is PO Box 217, Carmine, TX 78932.
A burn ban is in effect for Fayette County. This means no burning of any kind. Please obey the rules of the county.
Casino Night
The 6th Annual Carmine Chamber of Commerce Casino night has been postponed. It is normally held in August, but the chamber voted to reschedule due to COVID-19. The new date will be Oct. 10.
The Chamber also has t-shirts and hats for sale. Both items are a great way to offer support for our “Little city with a big heart.”

Walk for Life Changes
New Beginnings Life Ministries will have the Chick-fil-A meal as a drive-through-only on Saturday, Aug. 8, with pickup from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Hohlt Park Amphitheatre in Brenham. The Walk for Life has been cancelled due to COVID-19.
Chick-fil-A meal box tickets are $10 and include a sandwich, chips and cookie. Tickets must be purchased in advance by July 31 at the Center, located at 1016 E Blue Bell RD, Brenham, TX 77833.
Raffle tickets are $5 each, or $20 for a pack of five, and may be purchased in-person or online.

Visitors’ Center
The Carmine Chamber of Commerce Visitors’ Center at the restored Train Depot is open on the second and fourth Fridays and Saturdays of the month from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
MLLC News
Saturday worship service with Holy Communion is at 6 p.m.
Sunday School is at 9 a.m. Worship service with Holy Communion is at 10 a.m. Prepackaged wafer and wine kits are being used. Precautionary guidelines will be followed at both services. The service will also be on the mllccarmine.com website. The Rev. David Tinker is the pastor.
AA meets on Sunday at 5 p.m.
Recycling
The Recycling trailer is at the Carmine Hall on Thursdays from noon until 4 p.m.
Items accepted are dry newspapers, telephone books, magazines, cardboard, paper, junk mail, clean no. 1 and no. 2 food grade plastics, all colors glass, steel food cans and aluminum cans. It is very helpful to have the recycled items separated. Attendants are available to help unload.
They kindly ask that you please wait to drop off items until they are open.
The trailer is in Ledbetter from 8:30 to 11 a.m., also on Thursdays, behind the Ledbetter Fireman’s Hall.
