Road Race Incident in La Grange

La Grange Chief of Police David Gilbreath reports that on Saturday, August 22 at 10:20 p.m. Police responded to a call of a road rage incident that happened on State Highway 159 near La Grange. The complainant reported to the Fayette County Dispatcher that a subject in a green Ford Freestyle vehicle had been following them from Rutersville all the way to La Grange.

The complainant reported that the suspect vehicle was flashing the headlights and then would turn off the headlights, tailgate their vehicle and attempt to pass them while meeting traffic head-on on 159.

When the complainant stopped for a red light at the intersection of Travis and Jefferson Street, the driver of the suspect vehicle got out, ran up to the complainant’s vehicle and began to beat his fist against the complainant’s car windows. The complainant then sped off to get away from the suspect.

La Grange Officers David Mohr and Curtis Zwahr along with the Texas Department of Public Safety Trooper Mason Hartnett located the suspect vehicle at the intersection of Travis and Jefferson Street. The officers conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle at the intersection of Colorado and Jefferson Streets.

Trooper Hartnett investigated the incident and arrested the driver, later identified as Quinton Ross Burkham, 34 of La Grange, for driving while intoxicated and possession of a controlled substance. Burkham was then transported to the Dan R. Beck Justice Center and booked into jail on those charges.

Gilbreath said the complainant and Burkham did not know each other.

Gilbreath also said the controlled substance was a prescription drug for which Burkham did not have a prescription.
