Faison Program

A history theater program will take place on Saturday, Sept. 19 at 1 p.m. at Historic Faison House, 822 S. Jefferson St., La Grange. The bluff on Hwy. 77 and Colorado River bridge will be closed for construction. You will need to route via downtown to the Faison House on this date. Following the Monument Hill Remembrance: A Texas Heroes Day memorial ceremony that morning at Kreische Brewery and Monument Hill State Historic Sites, the afternoon program will tell the story of Nathaniel Faison’s journey to La Grange, his decision to go to war, his time in prison, and his return home, where he made his mark on the community an impact that can still be seen today.

Farmers Market

Tanecka Reunion

The Tanecka family reunion will be held Saturday, Sept. 19. at 11 a.m. at the Fayette County Homemakers Building, Fayette County Fairgrounds, Hwy. 77, La Grange. The Fayette County Czech Heritage Society Fall meeting will be held Sunday, Sept. 20 at 2 p.m. at TCHCC Hanslik Hall in La Grange. Following the meeting there will be creative Czech games as well as longtime favorites such as dominoes, cards, and taroks, and a Svačina (snack). Members, please bring a snack to share. Texas Heroes Day to be Celebrated

Texas Heroes Day will be celebrated around La Grange with special programs on Saturday, Sept. 19. Kreische Brewery and Monument Hill State Historic Sites will host its annual Monument Hill Remembrance Ceremony at 9:30 a.m. The ceremony will feature a keynote speech from Texas historian Dr. Frank de la Teja, along with the traditional wreath laying and gun salute led by costumed re-enactors.Admission fees are waived for ceremony attendees. Seating may be limited, and guests are welcome to bring personal lawn chairs.

Buckner’s Creek

Buckner’s Creek Wildlife Management Area (WMA) Seminar will be Saturday, Sept. 19. Doors open at 10 a.m. at Sts. Peter and Paul Church Hall, Plum Church Road in Plum. Registration, meeting, presentation, prizes and meal to follow.

Class of 1977 Reunion Planning Meeting A 50-year reunion planning meeting for the La Grange High School class of 1977 will take place on Sunday, Sept. 20 at 2 p.m. at 794 Hanacek Ln. in La Grange. Moulton Church Picnic

St. Joseph’s Moulton Church Picnic will be held in the Social Center on Sunday, Sept. 20 with Mass at 10 a.m. at the church. a fried chicken and stew dinner is $15 per plate, dine in or drive thru. Meat to-go available until sold out. Enjoy train rides, fish pond, ring toss, cake walk and country store. Auction begins at 1 p.m. and there will be hamburgers, snow cones and popcorn. Ken Brothers plays from 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. and Mark Halata and Texavia from 2-6 p.m. A grand prize drawing with a $5,000 gift certificate will be held.

Community Center Speaker

Nina Hendee, owner of Taste of Texas restaurant, winner of the “Mega-Mouth award from the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, lover of Texas history, custodian of numerous early Texas artifacts, Admiral in the historic Texas Navy and admired educator will speak in Fayetteville on Sunday, Sept. 20 at 3 p.m. at the Fayetteville Community Center, 107 West Fayette St. without charge. This is the fifth speaker in the Fayetteville Community Center Speaker Series and will be an entertaining presentation. All are welcome. Beverages will be served.

LHS Seeking Participants

La Grange High School is seeking local businesses interested in participating as exhibitors at the College, Career & Military Day, scheduled for Monday, Sept. 21, from 9-11 a.m. The event aims to introduce students to various local career opportunities and provide representatives the opportunity to share information about their professions. Food Handlers Workshop

A two hour food handlers’ workshop will be held on Monday, Sept. 21, at the Fayette Agricultural Building, 255 Svoboda Lane, Room 104 in La Grange. This course is accredited by the Texas Department of State Health Services. The Texas Food Establishment Rules (TFER) state that all food employees must complete an accredited food handler training course within 30 days of employment. Food employees must also keep their food handler’s card updated. The cost of the class is $20. and participants need to pre-register at least two days in advance. Join Tuesday, Sept. 22 from 11:30 a.m. - 1 p.m. for a Lunch & Learn hosted by the La Grange Area Chamber of Commerce in partnership with the Prairie View A&M University (PVAMU) Extension Program. Dr. Shanta Harrison, Extension Program Specialist for Housing at PVAMU, will walk attendees through two USDA programs that can open the door to affordable homeownership and help current homeowners keep their homes safe. USDA Section 502 Single Family Housing Direct Loan helps low and moderate-income households buy, build, or refinance a home in eligible rural areas, often with no down payment required. USDA Section 504 Home Repair Loan and Grant helps existing low-income homeowners repair, modernize, or remove health and safety hazards from their homes. Grants (which don’t have to be repaid) are available to homeowners age 62 and older. Dr. Harrison’s team will also provide on-site application assistance, so attendees can get started the same day. This Lunch & Learn will take place at the Texas Czech Heritage and Cultural Center, 250 W. Fairgrounds Rd. in La Grange. The cost is free for La Grange Chamber members and non-members.

RT-Shelby Hermann Sons Life Lodge

The Round Top-Shelby Hermann Sons Life Lodge will meet on Tuesday, Sept. 22 at the Round Top Rifle Association Hall at 710 FM 1457, Round Top. A social time will begin at 6 p.m. a meeting at 6:30 with a meal following. The Lodge will provide a spaghetti dinner for the meal and members are invited to bring sides or desserts to share. Please note the new meeting date going forward is the fourth Tuesday of the month with the exception of the month of December, when we will continue to meet on the second Sunday of December for the annual Christmas party. La Grange Garden Club

The La Grange Garden Club will hold its regular monthly meeting, Thursday, Sept. 24 beginning at 11:30 a.m. with social and program at 12 noon at the Randolph Recreation Center located at 653 Pearl St. in La Grange. The program will include city officials and various local community leaders for a lively question and answer discussion on future projects and collaboration. This presentation is open to the public. Join every fourth Thursday of the month for an interesting and informative program.
