Hermann Sons Life Rutersville will have their monthly meeting on Wednesday, July 1 at 7 p.m. The meal will include hamburgers and members are asked to bring a side or dessert.
LG City Schedule
City of La Grange offices will be closed on Friday, July 3 in observance of Independence Day. Waste Management’s residential garbage and recycling service will be on the normal scheduled day of pick-up for the week of the July 4 holiday. Commercial dumpster service will be on the regular schedule.
LGISD Hours
The La Grange ISD Administration Office will be closed in observance of the 4th of July holiday the week of June 29 through July 3. The office will re-open on Monday, July 6.
RT Library Hours
The Round Top Family Library is open Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. and Thursday from 1:30 to 5:30 p.m. The library is closed Saturday and Sunday. American Legion Quade-Werchan
While still concerned over maintaining proper social distancing and observing current regulations to protect the health and safety of the post members, the monthly meeting for American Legion Quade-Werchan Post 338 scheduled for Thursday, July 2 will be held, although not in the traditional manner. Post members and auxiliary members are encouraged to attend the meeting by participating in a drive-by catered meal consisting of chicken fried chicken with gravy, mashed potatoes, and green beans. The take-home plates will be ready for pickup beginning at 6:30 p.m. at the post hall located at 1503 N. State Hwy. 237 in Round Top. All members and auxiliary members should confirm their attendance with the post commander, vice commanders, financial officer or adjutant by June 30 so that a proper number of meals can be prepared.
Lunch & Learn at Winedale
Winedale’s next virtual Lunch and Learn “The Forty-Eighters on Possum Creek: A Texas Civil War Story” will be on Tuesday, July 7 at 11 a.m. Dr. James Kearney of the University of Texas will discuss his translation of W.A. Trenckmann’s Civil War/Home Front novel about the educated Germans who settled at Millheim in Austin County. The German settlers at Millheim were by and large pro-Union and anti-slavery, which led to great stresses during the war. Framed as a coming of age story of a young man who is faced with the draft in the waning months of the war, Kuno Sartorius, the young hero, is torn between his beloved teacher, who extracts from him the promise that he will not put on the uniform of the Confederacy, and his father (and girlfriend) who both believe it is his duty to fight for the Confederacy. Fayetteville Chamber of Commerce
Due to the heightened concerns over the spike in coronavirus cases in Texas, the Fayetteville City-Wide Garage Sale scheduled for July 11 has been cancelled. The Greater Fayetteville Chamber of Commerce has taken the step to cancel the very popular event given Governor Abbott’s warnings about public gatherings. It is possible the event may be rescheduled for later this fall, but no date has been chosen, and the chamber will wait to see when such events can be safely held.
