Plane Lands on Highway 71

Page Mund of Needville was flying his plane from Austin to Wharton Thursday afternoon, July 2, when he was forced to make an emergency landing on State Highway 71 west of La Grange.

The incident happened around 3 p.m. Mund was flying solo in his 1958 Beechcraft Bonanza J35.

“I was cruising at 7,500 feet and (the engine) started spitting and sputtering,” Mund said. “I saw La Grange right in front of me. I thought, well, you know, it’s only about 10 miles.”
