Navidad Valley Community Connections Center Preps For Opening, Books Donated
Navidad Valley Community Connections (NVCC) is planning ahead and implementing best practices for safety during its June reopening. When you enter the facility, your temperature will be read with a temporal scanner. Right now, masks are still recommended, so visitors are asked you to wear a mask. If you don’t have one, a mask will be provided to you. A handwashing station will be available where visitors will be asked to wash hands with soap and water for 20 seconds. Hand sanitizer will also be available.
After signing in, visitors can get their drink and move into the main hall. Seating has been reconfigured to make it a friendlier seating arrangement, yet respect social distancing requirements. Domino tables will be separated, so less than six people will be at each table, meeting the group requirements of six or under.
Lunch will be served as usual; however, a sneeze guard is in front of the food and all servers will be wearing their aprons, as well as be masked and gloved. You will cleanse your hands with sanitizer, as usual, then a server behind the guard will fill your meal for you and give it to you at the end of the line. The hall, all chairs, tables, bingo cards, dominos, etc have been thoroughly sanitized. This will be done again after you have left. Sign out as you leave. NVCC ladies have been sewing masks from home and continue to be very busy. Elastic is now available, so if you prefer that to ties, let the ladies know when you place your order. The ladies have also started making children’s masks. NVCC appreciates the loyal seamstresses Betty Gabler, Kathy Bertsch, Sandy Colvin and Debbh Florus. These ladies have worked tirelessly to keep up with the demand. Not to be forgotten are the folks who donated material and notions for the mask construction.
NVCC is starting a new project partnering with the Schulenburg Public Library, the West Public Library and the Czech Ex-Student Association. This group is offering free, online Czech language classes for children, teens and adults. For more information contact Thadious Polasek at the Schulenburg library (979) 743-3345. As you may recall, NVCC sponsors the Czech Conversation Circle with Thadious so older folks who speak Czech have an opportunity to practice speaking as they would at home. This group will start up again at a future date.
NVCC is continuing the book donations from books purchased for the book club. Flatonia Police Chief Lee Dick received the January book selection “His Badge My Story.” This book was written by the wife of a Fort Worth police detective and is really targeting those who work in law enforcement and their families.
NVCC is planning to open at the VFW Hall sometime in June and taking guidance from the city and from Craig Moreau. The target date is June 22. That date is not firm, but updates will be provided as plans evolve.
