Local Officer Gets an Award For Bravery/Service in Houston
The 100 Club of Houston honored Sgt. Randy Thuman of the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office at their annual Heroes Banquet on Tuesday, May 19.
He was among 49 area peace officers and firefighters recognized for exceptional bravery and service by the organization. The 100 Club picked Thumann for the honor based on an incident a year ago in which Thumann rescued 12 undocumented individuals who were being smuggled inside hay bales on a trailer.
Thumann’s award citation states the following: “On May 19, 2025, Sergeant Randy Thumann’s vigilant and seasoned interdiction skills led to the discovery and rescue of twelve undocumented individuals who were hidden in perilous, cramped compartments within hay bales on a flatbed trailer. Sergeant Thumann’s instincts and experience uncovered a criminal smuggling operation that subjected its victims to unimaginable risks. After piecing together conflicting stories and overcoming language barriers, his actions not only saved lives, but also exposed a unique and dangerous method of human trafficking, preventing further exploitation and bringing the perpetrators to justice. Sergeant Thumann’s dedication and diligence exemplify the highest ideals of law enforcement.”
The 100 Club, established in 1953, is a non-profit organization focused on providing immediate financial assistance to the dependent families of peace officers and firefighters who are killed or seriously injured in the line of duty.
