LG Utilities Customer to See Rate Increase in November

The La Grange City Council unanimously approved new rates for electricity, sewer, water and garbage collection at a meeting Monday, Aug. 24.

City Manager Shawn Raborn proposed base rate increases of 1.4 percent for sewer and water. Raborn said the increase matches the rise in the consumer price index (CPI). Likewise, he said those increases would keep the rates in line with overall inflation in the economy.

The base water rate for residential customers will go from $27.45 to $27.84 per month, and the volumetric rate will also increase by four cents per thousand gallons.

The base sewer rate for residential customers will go from $12.46 to $12.63 per month, and the volumetric rate will increase by three cents per thousand gallons.

The base electric rate for residential customers will increase by eight percent. Raborn said the increase was needed to keep pace with inflation and due to increasing costs for providing electrical services. The residential base electric rate will go from $12.50 to $13.50 per month.

Rates for garbage collection will increase by three percent next year in accordance with the City’s contract with Waste Management. The base residential rate will go from $24.47 to

$25.20 per month. The senior citizen rate will go from $22.34 to $23.14 per month. The additional cart charge will increase from $7.18 to $7.40 per month. The garbage rate includes collection once a week, curbside recycling every other week, quarterly bulk curbside waste collection, two brush collections per year and two additional cleanup opportunities per year.

The new rates will go into effect in November.
