LG Police Nab Duo With $5,310 in Funny Money

An Austin couple who tried to pass counterfeit money at the La Grange Tractor Supply were caught by local police and now are being investigated for similar incidents at Tractor Supply chains all across Central Texas.

Robert Minor, 57, and Angela Dempsey, 55 both of Austin tried to use counterfeit bills at the La Grange Tractor Supply Wednesday. When the cashier questioned the authenticity of the money, the couple said they would go out to their car to get a credit card to complete the purchase.

Instead of returning to the store the couple fled in their vehicle, but the alert cashier was able to get a description of the car, a license plate number and called 911.

The suspects were pulled over near St. Mark’s Medical Center on Highway 77.

Minor and Dempsey were both arrested by La Grange police officers Brian Adams and Bret Meinardus for forgery.

Upon searching the vehicle $5,310 in counterfeit money was found inside along with the printer used to make the fake bills.

“That’s the most counterfeit money I’ve ever seen,” Adams said.

Additionally found in the vehicle was a Texas map with a route marked on it that matched the locations of several other Tractor Supply locations that had recently had counterfeit bills passed there.

Also located in the car were three different types of illegal drugs, which will add to the charges against the Austin duo.

Officer Adams reminds local merchants to slow down and take your time during cash transactions to better keep an eye out for fake bills.
