LG Hires Giddings Tourism Director

The City of La Grange hired Kelita Thomas to serve as tourism and communications coordinator. She comes with 15 years of experience serving as tourism director for the Giddings Chamber of Commerce.

“We’re really excited about her,” said La Grange Main Street Manager Caleb Parks. “She brings a lot of experience to the role and comes with her Certified Tourism Expert certification. We think that she’s going to be a really good fit for what we are looking for in that position.”

Parks said Thomas will serve as the primary marketing person for attracting tourists and visitors to La Grange. She’ll also manage the City’s social media channels and help update the City website. In addition, she’ll coordinate communication between the City and residents.

Thomas replaces Ashley Watkins, who had her second child earlier this summer and resigned to spend more time raising her children.

“While we’re sad to see Ashley go, we’re excited to see what Kelita can come in and do for that role,” Parks said.

“We’re still kind of developing that position in some ways,” Parks added. “It was a new position when Ashley moved into it. We didn’t have a dedicated person to do that before – to work on destination marketing, attracting people to visit, spend their money and support our local economy, as well as help us communicate with our community and residents.”

Thomas will start with the city next week, Parks said.
