LG Chevrolet Dealership Moving Out of Downtown and to the Bypass

For ninety years, new cars have been sold in downtown La Grange.

But starting this week, that changes.

The sales department of Oviedo Chevrolet, along with all of the dealership’s new and used vehicles, have been moved to the Oviedo Dodge location at 1980 W. State Hwy 71 Bypass. In the next month or two, owner Johnny Oviedo said the downtown Chevrolet service department will follow.

Johnny Oviedo said his Dodge and Chevrolet dealerships will share space at the bypass location, but he has purchased land adjacent to the Dodge dealership to build a totally new Chevrolet dealership.

“It was great for nearly 100 years, but we’re ready for a new start,” said Johnny Oviedo, of the move of the Chevrolet dealership from downtown La Grange, which first opened here in the 1930s, an offshoot of a Buick dealership run by the Brasher family in Weimar.

Johnny Oviedo said he plans to put the 108 W. Colorado Street location up for sale.

He said he was selling “three or four times more” vehicles at the Dodge dealership compared to the Chevrolet dealership and he said he thinks location was the biggest reason why.

“There’s better visibility, and I think we’ll be able to provide better service to our customers out there (on the bypass),” Oviedo said.

Oviedo also owns the old Second Chance Emporium location adjacent to the KC Hall, which was flooded by Hurricane Harvey. Extensive restoration work has been done on that facility, which Oviedo said he plans to eventually turn into a washateria and two other store fronts, but progress on that project has been stalled by this dealership move plan and coronavirus impacts.
