July Was Busiest AMEN Food Pantry Month Ever

AMEN food pantry has made changes due to the coronavirus impact. The pantry hours have changed to Monday mornings 9 a.m. to noon as a drive-thru format only. This change was made due to the heat in the afternoons. The volunteers build food bags and disperse by family head count to the clients. There are no plans to switch back to clients entering the building, a decision will be made month to month when a change will occur. A reminder to all one may visit the pantry as often as needed until the food crisis has dissipated.

The pantry served 994 individuals for the month of July (the largest head count receiving food in history of the pantry). The donations and the monetary donations given by the community have allowed the pantry to purchase products not available from the food bank. Along with the food products provided the clients are given a food voucher to HEB that can be used for food purchase. These vouchers are charged to AMEN and paid monthly.

Volunteer count was 114 with 238 hours provided to the pantry.

The pantry is needed to hire an individual with a box truck with a lift gate to retrieve our food bank order from Smithville twice a month. Currently the food bank will not deliver directly to our location. We have a small box trailer; however, it will not accommodate the volume needed to be hauled. Due to the limited hauling capacity we are forced to buy food from the local grocery in lieu of the food bank. A reminder food donation is needed and can be dropped off on Mondays in the morning hours from 9-12. If you require a special time call 979-968-3943 and leave a message. Monetary donations can be mailed to P O Box 571, La Grange 78945.

The food pantry leadership said they appreciate the community and the volunteers who provide the resources and labor to provide this service to our community.
