Interim EMS Director Also Resigning

Interim EMS Director Malissa Mieth submitted a letter of resignation to Fayette County effective June 29.

County Judge Joe Weber confirmed on Tuesday that he received Mieth’s resignation letter.

“She is moving on to another job,” Weber said.

The Record attempted to contact Mieth for comment, but she has not responded.

Mieth’s resignation comes on the heels of former EMS Director Sharon Muzny’s departure last month. Mieth, who was the assistant director under Muzny, has been serving as interim director since then. Muzny left at the end of May to take a job as Operations and Safety Director at La Grange ISD. At a Commissioners Court meeting on May 14, Muzny even advocated for Mieth to take over as director after she left.

The Record asked Weber whether the two recent departures indicates turmoil within the EMS department.

“Not that I’m aware of,” Weber said. “They both wrote positive letters in resigning. We’re ready to move on. I think they were probably going to make more money and have better hours. No, I don’t think there’s a problem.”

The County posted a job opening for the EMS Director position after Muzny resigned. Just last week, Weber told the Record that he expected Mieth to apply for the job.

Weber said his office has received 15 applications for the EMS Director job.

“We have plenty of applicants to fill these positions,” Weber said. “There may be some reorganization now that both of them have left.”

Weber said he would begin interviewing applicants over the next few days and hoped to have a new director selected before Mieth leaves at the end of this month.

“I firmly believe we’ll have somebody by then,” Weber said.
