Friends of Kreische Brewery & Monument Hill Kick-off August Membership Drive

The Friends of Kreische Brewery & Monument Hill State Historic Sites kicked off their August membership drive earlier this month. The Friends Board of Directors, in cooperation with Sites staff, recently adopted a new membership structure and benefits.

Friend members receive free admission to the Sites, discounts in the museum store, invitations to exclusive events and member socials, and regular updates through Friends publications. All current members will be invited to participate in the Friends’ next “Virtual Happy Hour” on Wednesday, Aug. 19 at 5 p.m. The virtual happy hours provide members with the opportunity to connect on Zoom, hear updates on the Sites’ and Friends’ initiatives, and participate in unique educational activities.

This month’s virtual happy hour will feature live entertainment from “Das Ist Lustig.” This German folk music group will share the songs of the Bluff Schuetzen Verein Pavilion which once stood on the Kreische’s property. Registered guests will also receive snacks and beverages from Swede & Lewis Texas Art Bar and Twisted X brewing Co.

“We hope new folks will join our Friends group before the next virtual happy hour so they can join the fun,” says Friends Board President Katy Beauford. “These exclusive virtual events provide a really fun way to learn about our community’s history and heritage.”

The Friends of Kreische Brewery & Monument Hill State Historic Sites is the key partner of the Texas Historical Commission in supporting education and interpretation programs, community outreach, education and interpretation programs, and other important Sites initiatives. “Friends membership is the perfect way to support your historic sites while receiving exclusive member benefits,” says Sites Manager Marsha Hendrix.

Kreische Brewery & Monument Hill State Historic Sites are two of 31 historic sites operated by the Texas Historical Commission. These sites tell the real stories of Texans who made and remade Texas—a product of immigration, ingenuity, enterprise, risk, and sacrifice. Kreische Brewery shares the stories of German immigrant Heinrich Kreische, a well-regarded stonemason who built and operated one of the earliest commercial breweries in Texas.

Monument Hill preserves the burial place of Republic of Texas soldiers who died in the Dawson Massacre and ill-fated Mier Expedition (“Black Bean Episode”). The sites also offer recreational opportunities for hiking, picnicking, scenic views, and nature experiences.
