Five people from the Dallas/ Ft. Worth area, including two adults and three children died in a two vehicle accident Friday night on Highway 77 between La Grange and Schulenburg.

The cause of the accident and the identities of the victims had not been made public at press time.

The incident occurred on Highway 77 near Dittrich Road.

Fayette County Emergency management Director Craig Moreau said amidst the very tragic scene, he was very impressed with local first responders, including Fayette County EMS, Schulenburg fire and police departments and Fayette County Sheriff’s officers as they attended to the accident victims, at least one of whom was taken by helicopter and was in stable condition.

Moreau also wanted to remind people to keep those first responders in their thoughts especially after they have to deal with incidents like these that result in the loss of lives.

He said Fayette County EMS has good procedures in place to help first responders with the aftermath of traumatic calls, but the public can play an important role too.

“Career firefighters can go back to the station and talk about these things, but these type of incidents can be harder in a volunteer community,” Moreau said. He encouraged people to reach out to first responders they know periodically.

“Give them a call and ask them how they are doing,” Moreau said. “That can be really important.
