Fayette County Retired Teachers Attend Conference
The District 13 Fall Conference of the Texas Retired Teachers Association was held on Sept. 16, in San Marcos. Eleven members from the Fayette County Retired Teachers Association (FCRTA) were in attendance, along with members of the other Central Texas chapters that make up District 13. FCRTA had the second most members attending.
The meeting was called to order by Joe Ramirez, District 13 President, and Lisa Slinkard, FCRTA’s First Vice President, led the pledges to the flags of the United States and Texas. A memorial video honoring members from District 13 who passed away last year was presented by Jan Robin. Randy Moczygemba made a presentation about the effective use of technology by our chapters. Reports were heard about legislation, membership, retirement education, health and safety, and member benefits.
November is designated as Texas Retired Teachers Foundation (TRTF) donation month. FCRTA will be holding a Country Christmas Market on Nov. 6 and Nov. 7. The market will open at 9 a.m. each day and proceeds will go to TRTF to support their programs, grants, and scholarships for both retired and current teachers.
TRTA’s goal is to increase our membership across the state so that all Texas public school employees, current and retired, have a strong voice in the legislative process which regulates our finances.
