Fayette County Deputies, Dispatchers And Firefighters Had A Busy Weekend
Fayette County Sheriff Keith Korenek reports that deputies, dispatchers and firefighters were busy over the weekend. On Friday afternoon, July 17 around 3:41 p.m. the Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call reporting a vehicle and grass fire on US Highway 290 near Hills Road. The Carmine, Ledbetter and Burton Fire Departments were notified and responded to the scene. Upon arrival the vehicle was fully engulfed and a grass fire had started along the roadway. Deputies Joe Gonzales and Arvin Gresham responded and assisted with traffic control. The fire was quickly extinguished and was determined to have started from the engine area according to the driver.
On Saturday morning, July 18 at 2:28 a.m. a porch fire was reported at a trailer park on St. Highway 71 just east of La Grange. The La Grange fire department was notified and responded to the scene along with Deputy Jared Michalec and Michael Krenek. Upon arrival the occupant of the trailer had extinguished most of the wooden front porch fire. The La Grange Fire Department arrived and assisted extinguishing the fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Then on Saturday evening around 6:38 p.m. dispatch received several 911 calls reporting grass fires along I-10 west bound between 669 and 672- mile markers. The Schulenburg and Flatonia fire departments were notified and responded to the scene along with deputies T.J. McCleney and Arvin Gresham who assisted with traffic control as the fires were extinguished.
On Sunday, July 19 around 5:53 p.m. a 911 call reporting a vehicle trailer fire on I-10 west bound just west of FM 2672 was reported. The Schulenburg fire department was notified and responded to the scene and upon arrival a 2010 jeep being pulled on a U-haul trailer by a 2015 Dodge pickup was fully engulfed. The fire was quickly extinguished and the driver said he observed flames coming from the interior jeep as he was pulling it on the Interstate. Deputy Arvin Gresham assisted with traffic control and the cause of the fire was undetermined.
