Fall Planting Dates

I compiled the chart below with recommended planting dates for this area from Texas A&M University and the Farmers Almanac online planting date tool, which is calculated according to the historical first frost date by zip code (in this case La Grange) minus number of days it usually takes to grow the crop.

Crops marked with an asterisk should be planted from seed directly into the garden. All other crops are best planted from seedlings you grow yourself or purchase from a nursery.

If you want to start seedlings yourself, subtract 30 days from the date listed to find your seed starting date.

This chart is most definitely not the Gospel. The dates from Texas A&M are based on a lot of gardening experience in Texas and they will probably give you the best chance of success. I include the Farmers Almanac dates, though, to provide a range of dates that might work. You will probably be safe planting anytime between the two dates or a few days before or after.

Neither of the two sources had dates for all of the crops I wanted to list. In those cases, the date is marked N/A.
