Faith Lutheran High Octoberfest Set Oct. 25
Tickets are now available for the Faith Lutheran High School Octoberfest on Saturday, Oct. 25. Meal tickets are $15 each and include schnitzel, noodles, green beans, potato salad, kraut, bread, and coffee cake. Serving will be from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Holy Cross Picnic Grounds, dine in or carry out is available. Tickets are pre-sale only. Contact a student, staff member, or church office for tickets.
The Battle of the Vines and The Battle of the Brew, homebrew competition are back, so start planning your brews.
The traditional German meal, domino tournament, auction, cornhole tournament, live music, kids games, fellowship and lots of fun are in store for attendees. They will also have Sapientia Infiniti (infinite wisdom), a competition of an infinity bottle of whiskey. You can start preparing your bottle by adding a pour of any size from any whiskey you enjoy, keep no record, the infinity bottle is intended to be unique to you and unrepeatable.
BBQ Chicken Fundraiser South Lee County Volunteer Fire Department will have barbeque chickens available on Sunday, Oct. 26 from 10 a.m.-noon at the Serbin picnic grounds. Chickens will be $15 each, 16 oz containers of sauce, potato salad, noodles, and pinto beans will be $3 each. This will be to-go only and orders can be placed by calling the St. Paul Serbin church office at (979) 3669650 by Monday, Oct. 20. The Ladies of the Serbin LWML will have a bake sale during this time, proceeds will support the church general fund and LCMS seminarian Kurtis Hankemeier. Your support is greatly appreciated.
Neighbors Night Out
Neighbors Night Out in Warda will be held Sunday, Oct. 19, starting at 4 p.m. at the Holy Cross Picnic Grounds. Everyone in the community is welcome to join in the fun, food, and fellowship. Speakers include Breck Powers from Bluff Creek Ranch (the first mountain bike ranch in Texas), Harold Atkinson, speaking on oil and gas drilling/ development in our area, Faith Lutheran High School will speak on their growth and progress and Frank Dawson will represent the Warda Watch Group. Pulled pork sandwiches, hot dogs, and Blue Bell ice cream will be served. RSVP is appreciated by calling (979) 242-3333.
Warda Watch Group
Bob Garrett who graciously headed up the Warda Watch Group is retiring and in need of someone to take over this important group, serving approx. 100 area family members. Frank Dawson is assisting in the transition. If you are interested in being a part of this please call (405) 3889511 to find out how you can be a part of this group and help lead it to the next level. With crime increasing and our area growing every day, the Watch Group is an important asset to our community.
Family Fun Nights
Camp Lone Star in La-Grange is hosting their Family Fun Nights. Dates are Nov. 11, and Dec. 11. The event is from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at 2016 Camp Lone Star Rd. Visit their website to register at www.camplonestar. org.
La Grange VFD Fish Fry
The La Grange VFD will have their 40th Annual Fish Fry Fundraiser on Sunday, Oct. 19 at the KC Hall in La Grange. Drive-thru only from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. A free -will donation will be collected for the meal.
Wendish Heritage Society
The Texas Wendish Heritage Society will have a membership meeting on Sunday, Oct. 19 from 10 a.m.-2:30 p.m. at the Wendish Museum. Please register for this event by contacting museum@texaswendish. org or calling (979) 366-2441. This is a family friendly event and there will be door prizes, games, and activities for the kids. A noon meal will also be served.
St. Paul Trunk or Treat St. Paul Serbin will host a Trunk or Treat event at the church picnic grounds on Friday, Oct. 31 from 5-7 p.m. Families are encouraged to decorate their car area, share treats and fellowship together.
TXDOT Construction
The TXDOT road widening/ construction project on Hwy. 77 through Warda continues and has traffic stopped at times, waiting for the pilot car. Cars pulling out from the post office and the old Warda Store area are advised to use extra caution.
Couples Club at Holy Cross The Couples Club at Holy Cross is matching funds, up to $5000, to be used for the renovation of the picnic hall. The hall is used for many area functions, reunions, and fundraiser events. If you would like to contribute you can bring a check by the church office.
Sewing Circle
The Sewing Circle meets each Thursday from 9 a.m.noon in the old parish hall at Holy Cross in Warda. (this is around the back side of the church.) No experience is necessary and you do not have to be a church member to join this fun group. Contact the church office at (979) 2423333 if you have any questions.
Game Day at Holy Cross The next Game Day at Holy Cross in Warda will be held Friday, Nov. 21 from noon-2 p.m. Note the date change only for the month of November. A light lunch is served. There is no cost to attend and everyone is welcome. Games of bingo and dominoes are offered.
Central Texas Food Truck The Central Texas Food Truck will be at Waldeck Lutheran Church on Saturday, Oct. 18 from 10-11 a.m. Drive-thru only.
Holy Cross Services
Services at Holy Cross Lutheran are Sunday at 9 a.m. Bible Class and Sunday school follows the morning service.

October is set aside as Church Worker appreciation month. You are encouraged to thank Pastors and all those who serve God’s people.
The GEMS (Girl’s Embracing Mission Service) monthly event is Sunday, Oct. 26 at 2 p.m. at Holy Cross. This is for girl’s 5th-12th grade. They will be packing shoe boxes for Operation Christmas Child. Their goal is to pack 40 boxes. Donations for supplies, as well as Amazon gift cards are appreciated and will help towards the cost of supplies. If you would like to contribute, please drop off your donation at the church office.
Faith Lutheran High School Everyone is invited to join in the Chapel Worship Service held each Wednesday at 11:05 a.m.
