Deputies Stop Driver Going Wrong Way On Hwy. 71

Fayette County Sheriff Keith Korenek reports that on Wednesday night around 10:15 p.m. the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call reporting a white vehicle traveling eastbound on State Highway 71 in the westbound lane of traffic.

Deputies Jared Michalec and Joe Gonzales along with La Grange Police officers located the 2014 white Nissan Cube still traveling in the wrong lane. Deputies were able to get the vehicle stopped on Business 71 just off State Highway 71 west. The female driver was asked to exit the vehicle and deputies observed alcoholic beverages in the vehicle, Deputies also observed an infant in the back seat of the vehicle.

The standard field sobriety test was performed and the driver was placed under arrest.

The female identified as 31-year-old Whitney Michael Nolen of Austin was transported to the Dan R. Beck Justice Center and charged with driving while intoxicated with a child under five years of age. A relative that was approved by Child Protective Services picked up the infant.
