County Hires New EMS Coordinator

Fayette County has hired its new Emergency Medical Services Coordinator.

Josh Vandever was introduced as the new EMS Coordinator at Thursday’s Commissioners Court meeting, four days before he was officially going to begin employment with the county.

County Judge Joe Weber acknowledged Vandever at the meeting and said he was selected after a hiring process that included eight candidates interviewed.

Vandever addressed the court Thursday.

“I’d like to thank the court for putting your trust in me. I started my career in EMS back in 2010 right here in Fayette County,” he said.

Vandever worked here for six years and then said after getting married he moved to Houston and worked with the Cy-Fair and Memorial City fire departments.

When he heard about this opening, he applied immediately.

“The opportunity to come back here was a no-brainer,” he said. “A lot of the people who worked with me in 2010 are still here because it’s a great place.”

“We’re really glad to have Josh here,” said Fayette County Emergency Management Coordinator Craig Moreau, who will be Vandever’s direct supervisor. Moreau added that the staff of the EMS really stepped up over the past few weeks to keep things going after the resignations of the director and assistant director.

Earlier this year longtime EMS Director Sharon Muzny resigned to become La Grange Independent School District’s Director of School Operations and Safety. Just a few weeks later, Muzny’s assistant director Malissa Meith (who was serving as the interim director) also resigned to take a role with the Capital Area of Texas Regional Advisory Council (CATRAC) in Austin.
