County Fair Queen’s Contest is this Thursday

This coming weekend was supposed to be the 93rd annual Fayette County Fair.

And while several aspects of the event have been cancelled because of the pandemic, the livestock shows and barbeque cook-off will continue.

Kicking off the abbreviated fair schedule will be the Queen’s Scholarship Pageant Thursday at 7 p.m. on the main stage.

“The seven girls did exceptionally well considering the circumstances. Each and every one did creative fundraisers to use the funds to purchase 2021 Fayette County Fair Season Passes and then donated to nonprofits and other outstanding groups in the area. The fair association would like to thank the contestants, families and sponsors for working so hard during these trying times,” said Shannon Koehl Hemmitt, Pageant Chairman.

The fair will award over $6,000 in scholarships to the queen contestants.

Here’s some details about how the Queen’s Pageant will proceed:

• Seating is first come first serve and front gates will be open only from 6 p.m.-7:30 p.m. The pageant will begin at 7 p.m.

• Everyone entering will be screened and have their temperature taken. They must also sign in and receive a wristband.

• Face masks are required and social distancing will be enforced.

• There will be hand washing and sanitizer stations

• Bottled water will be provided free of charge for all in attendance to stay cool.

•All attendees over the age of 65 or with underlying medical conditions are cautioned to reconsider your attendance. If Continued from front you are over 65 or have underlying medical conditions please consult with your physician before attending this or any other gathering.

• If you arrive after the gates are closed, guests will not be able to enter as they will not be able to be screened.

• Pageant will be streamed live on the Fair website and Facebook page.

• Carly Bonds, a Senior at Flatonia High School, daughter of Craig & Monica Bonds, representing Flatonia Chamber of Commerce.

• Cierra Fitzpatrick, a Junior at La Grange High School, daughter of Ryan & Christina Fitzpatrick, representing Kyla Drozd Memorial.

• Haile Peter, a Junior at La Grange High School, daughter of Zach & Tiffany Peter, representing Fayette County Sheriff’s Posse.

• Raygen Pyle, a Sophomore at La Grange High School, daughter of Seth & Marsha Pyle, representing La Grange Area Chamber of Commerce.

• Abigail Stockdale, a Senior at La Grange High School, granddaughter of David Sparks & Vickie Sparks, representing Frisch Auf! Valley Country Club.

• Tiyonna Washington, a Sophomore at La Grange High School, daughter of Tim & Sylvia Hutchison, representing La Grange Optimist Club.

• Layne Wied, a Junior at Fayetteville High School, daughter of Chip Wied & Nikki Wied, representing Knights of Columbus Lodge #2574.
