Child in Car Seat Left Hanging Upside Down but OK After Rollover

Everyone escaped serious injury in a rollover crash on S. Washington St. in La Grange Monday afternoon, including a young boy who was strapped in a child safety seat.

The crash happened around 1:45 p.m. The child was riding in a blue Nissan Frontier driven by his father. They were heading south on South Washington Street. A gray Hyundai Tucson was heading west on Cedar St.

La Grange Police investigated the crash, but the report was not available in time for this publication. There is a yield sign on Cedar St. at the intersection with S. Washington.

The two vehicles collided at the intersection. The Nissan Frontier rolled over and crashed into a signpost. The pickup came to rest on its roof at the edge of the roadway, with the young boy dangling upside down in his car seat. Fayette County EMS Director Josh Vandever was among the first responders at the scene. He praised the father for properly securing the child. Vandever said the boy would have likely suffered serious injury or death without the child safety seat.

EMS personnel checked over both drivers and the child. No one was seriously injured. La Grange Volunteer Fire Department also responded, along with City of La Grange street department workers, who repaired the damaged sign.
