Carmine VFD Firemen’s Feast Cancelled

Carmine Volunteer Fire Department’s Firemen’s Feast and Fundraiser in July is cancelled.

If you have new neighbors, mention to them about getting house numbers and placing them where they are visible from the road, especially at night.

Controlled burns need to be called in to the Fayette County Sheriff’s office at (979) 968- 5856. Give them your name, address of the burn and telephone number. In Washington County, call (979) 277-7373.

RT-C School News

Round Top-Carmine ISD, in cooperation with the Burton Special Services Cooperative, will screen 3- and 4-year-old children in the RT-C school district for the Early Childhood Program on Wednesday, July 22, from 9 a.m. until noon at the elementary school located at 608 North Washington Street in Round Top.

Registration for the 2020- 2021 Prekindergarten Class will also be open for students living in the RTC-ISD or are eligible for transfer into the district. A child must be four years of age on September 1, 2020 to be eligible.

Rebekah Group

The Rebekah Group of Martin Luther Lutheran Church met on June 11 after two months of not having meetings due to COVID-19. Six members were present for the meeting. They were Joys Baird, Leonita Sanders, Barbara Jacob, Dianna Gerland, Diana Wunderlich and Nancy Eilers.

Birthday celebrants recognized for April were: Carol Carmean and Nevilee Marburger; for May: Jenell Jaster, Edith Flinn and Karen Springer; and for June: Sedalia Ullrich, Elvera Rudloff, Elvera Limmer, Verline Schulte and Joyce Fuchs.

Diana Wunderlich led the Bible study, “Just Love: Session 1 In the family; What’s Love Got to Do With It?”

Vice-President, Barbara Jacob, called the meeting to order. The purpose and mission statements were recited.

Diana Wunderlich reported for Mission Action that the group did quilt once again on June 8. About 10 were sewn for Camp For All, but still need tacking. Packing for Lutheran World Relief was cancelled and a new date will be set. The collection date at Zionsville was postponed to November. The Spring Happening did not take place.

Sedalia Ullrich with Mission Community sent word that all the nursing home parties were cancelled for the rest of the year.

Joys Baird reported for Mission Growth that the Thankoffering service with meal is still scheduled for November 8.

At the WELCA Unit meeting, it was decided to postpone the banquet until June 2021.

Barbara Jacob gave the offering meditation by having the group sing The Doxology.

The group signed a card for Dianne Sager, who has moved to Georgetown.

The meeting closed with the Lord’s Prayer. The group sang the table prayer and enjoyed refreshments served by Dianna Gerland and Colette Wunderlich.

MLLC News

Saturday worship service is at 6 p.m.

Sunday school is at 9 a.m. Worship service is at 10 a.m. Precautionary guidelines will be followed at both services. There will be no Holy Communion. The service will also be on the mllccarmine.com website. The Rev. David Tinker is the pastor.

AA meets Sunday at 5 p.m.

Visitors’ Center

The Carmine Chamber of Commerce Visitors’ Center at the restored Train Depot is open on the second and fourth Fridays and Saturdays of the month from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Recycling

The recycling trailer is at the Carmine Hall on Thursdays from noon until 4 p.m.

Items accepted are dry newspapers, telephone books, magazines, cardboard, paper, junk mail, clean no. 1 and no. 2 food grade plastics, all colors of glass, steel food cans and aluminum cans. It is very helpful to have the recycled items separated. Attendants are available to help unload.

They ask that you please wait to drop off items when they are open. Do not bring items when they are not there.

The trailer is in Ledbetter from 8:30 to 11 a.m., also on Thursdays, behind the Ledbetter Fireman’s Hall.
