Battery Hides Heroin

Battery Hides Heroin

Sheriff Keith Korenek reports that on Tuesday May 19, the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Canine Unit, Sgt. Randy Thumann and K9 partner Kolt, stopped a Ford F-350 on Interstate 10 at the 660 mile-marker at approximately 5:47 pm for a traffic violation. After speaking to the driver Thumann became suspicious that the vehicle was involved in transporting illegal narcotics. Thumann was given consent to search the vehicle. Thumann and Deputy Jeramy Ellison searched the vehicle and discovered approximately 20.5 pounds of heroin concealed inside two batteries. The narcotics have an estimated street value of $2,790,000 dollars. The driver Gudelio Garza, 52 of Del Rio, was arrested for felony heroin possession and taken to the Dan R. Beck Justice Center.
