Armed Forces Appreciation Dinner Held in La Grange

The third annual Armed Forces Appreciation Dinner and Dance took place at the La Grange KC Hall Saturday, Sept. 12. This year’s event celebrated America’s 250th Birthday. Ceremonies began at 4 p.m. Emcee Lyn Revis delivered a welcome message. Pastor Rickesh Patel of West End Baptist Church in Industry offered an opening prayer. Colorado Valley Detachment 1028 of the Marine Corps Legue posted the colors. Marine Corps veteran Montana Olle performed the National Anthem. Giddings American Legion Post 276, Round Top American Legion Post 338 and Shelby American Legion Post conducted a Missing Man Table Ceremony.

All of the veterans in attendance were then recognized. Montana Olle was the youngest veteran in attendance at age 30. The oldest in attendance was World War II veteran B.J. Anderson at age 102. Pat Lyons conducted the cake cutting ceremony. John D. Marburger performed Taps. Jennifer Sanders delivered the prayer before the meal.

After the meal, the veterans enjoyed a dance. There was a bucket sale, raffle and door prizes.

The event was sponsored by Veterans Appreciation of Texas Foundation and supported by the American Legion posts in Lexington, Flatonia, La Grange, Schulenburg, Smithville, Hallettsville, Giddings, Round Top, Moulton and Shelby; Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 870; Colorado Valley Detament of the Marine Corps League; and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1309 of Smithville and Post 5254 of La Grange.
