AMEN Serves Largest Head Count In History During Month of August

The AMEN Food Pantry served 1,220 individuals in the month of August (the largest head count of people receiving food in the history of the pantry). The previous month of July was a record and now August has surpassed the July number.

There were a record 58 new clients for the month. The donations and the monetary donations given by the community have allowed the pantry to purchase products not available from the food bank. Along with the food products provided the clients are given a food voucher to HEB that can be used for food purchases. These vouchers are charged to AMEN and paid monthly.

The pantry appreciates the Rotary Club for providing two to three volunteers every Monday to assist with distribution.

The food bank in the past provided food boxes already built with products ready to go, now volunteers receive the boxes and build the box with products, which is labor intensive. As a drive-thru, everything must be ready for the day of distribution.

Volunteer count was 134 with 156 hours provided to the pantry. The mobile pantry in Waldeck served 245 families with 20 volunteers. The demand was so high that not all in line received food. There were seven new clients.

As seen by the numbers for the pantry and the mobile pantry the demand is large for food assistance in the community.
