RT Could Skip Sesquicentennial

The Town of Round Top was supposed to celebrate its 150th birthday on Aug. 1, but the town council will vote Monday whether to cancel that event in light of the coronavirus pandemic.

An agenda for the Monday morning meeting says the council would also take the following action: “Discussion and action to spend up to $5,000 for the organization of the Fall Antique Show venues along with the creation of written protocols for venues and customers for the purpose of advocating to allow the Fall Show to occur this year.”

County Judge Joe Weber ordered the cancellation of the Spring antiques show back in March as the coronavirus pandemic started to spread around the country. At that time, there were no known cases of coronavirus in Fayette County. As of Sunday, July 5, 100 people have tested positive for the virus since the pandemic began. Of those, there have been four deaths and 31 recoveries.
