T EXAS History Frank Buck, the celebrated adventurer who brought exotic wildlife “back alive,” took his last breath not in a faraway jungle but in a Houston hospital bed on Mar. 25, 1950.

Schulenburg School Superintendent Ben Sustr showed commissioners color slides he had taken of the properties on a trip he made to Baylor County with Fayette County School Superintendent Fritz Lobpries.

To the Editor: Several recent letters To the Editor of the FCR, if I understood them correctly, made references to voting with a Christian mindset. A phrase I have heard many times comes to mind: “The devil is in the details.” Are voters applying the Biblical principles when they vet and support candidates? I am extremely grateful for the Judeo-Christian heritage of the U.S.

To the editor: Your young basketball hopefuls missed a special treat if they missed watching the Fayetteville boys play in the final four at the Alamodome. Basketball is a non-contact sport that requires finesse and prevenance.

To the Editor: Wednesday morning I reviewed unofficial results as posted by our county Elections Administrator. The national races were of interest but I want to comment on two local offices and results; it is only fair to report that I did participate in this primary vote as a Republican.

I’m preparing for a tour to southern Mexico where the temperature is already close to 100 degrees… and it is only mid-March! We will be visiting the state of Chiapas, home of the historic municipality and Mayan ruins of Palenque, a place high on my list of interesting sites to visit. The town has a large Ch’ol indigious population, and as of 2005, there were 37,032 people who spoke an indigenous language, out of a total population of 85,464.

The late, great Leon Hale wrote all sorts of wonderful columns in Houston newspapers. But he had two recurring ones that I especially remember.

The trouble with growing new plants is knowing what they are supposed to look like when they sprout. For a few years now, I’ve wanted to grow agretti (Salsola Soda), a plant in the saltwort family.
