Why Politicize?

To the Editor:

When I saw the names and photos of the fallen soldiers who died in Afghanistan appeared in last week’s opinion section, I immediately thought, “What a caring gesture.” Then, I read the next sentences and realized the message was to politicize the tragic event-an event that all Americans are grieving over. To suggest that all Americans are not honoring these fallen heroes is unbelievable. To read those next sentences in what started out to be a hopeful gesture was disturbing to me.

Then, I read online in that Rick Perry was congratulating Judge Weber for deciding not to fly the courthouse flag at halfstaff to honor our fallen soldiers. Wouldn’t anyone who has served in the military know the proper protocol for honoring our fallen soldiers? I hope Judge Weber will address this decision. Is he trying to politicize this tragedy? I sincerely hope not.
