Why New Voices Matter for La Grange
To the Editor and the Citizens of La Grange, As my current term on the La Grange City Council draws to a close this May, I want to express my deepest gratitude to the community for the opportunity to serve Ward 3. These past three years have been a privilege. In every meeting and every vote, I have strived to be prepared, to represent the desires of our citizens, and to promote managed growth that honors the character of our town.
After much prayer and reflection, I have decided to withdraw my candidacy for re-election. This was not a decision I made lightly, but one I reached through seeking the Lord’s guidance. My primary goal has always been to glorify Him in my service and to do what is best for the people of La Grange and our dedicated city staff.
I am truly excited to see increased interest in local governance. When I first ran, there were no other candidates stepping up; today, we have citizens eager to serve. I believe that civic responsibility is something we should share, and that “taking turns” allows for fresh perspectives and new ideas that keep our council vibrant.
To that end, I am confident in the candidate moving forward. With the benefit of retirement, they possess the time and legal experience necessary to dedicate themselves fully to this role. I believe they will serve our ward with excellence.
My love for La Grange remains unchanged, and I plan to stay active as a private citizen. However, I want to leave you with an encouragement: please participate. During my term, I often wished I had heard more from individual constituents. While it is powerful to see a crowd at a council meeting, council members cannot respond during public comment. To truly “talk through” an issue, I urge you to reach out to your council members and the City Manager individually via phone or email.
Local government is unique because the people making the decisions are your neighbors, coworkers, and fellow church members. Unlike the state or federal level, your voice here makes a direct impact. Even when we disagree on the “how,” honest and respectful conversation is the only way to achieve what is best for our future.
Thank you again for trusting me to represent you. It has been a blessing to serve. Sincerely,
