Wandering Lawmakers
To the Editor:
I learned from the CBS nightly Austin news, “the Texas House Democrat Caucus had issued two demands as ‘conditions’ for their return.” Why should the political leaders or the citizens of Texas consider “demands” from elected legislators who abandoned the people they were elected to represent? These ‘wandering’ elected legislators were not interested in representing their constituents. They left the state so they could avoid voting on the issue of correcting fair citizen representation. They chose to ignore the fact the Federal Department of Justice sent Gov. Abbott orders to correct congressional districts or there would be consequences.
The Daily Signal reported the following in an Aug. 6, 2025 commentary: “In 2022, the Census Bureau admitted it had made major errors in the 2020 census and had undercounted the population of Texas by over half a million residents, or close to 2%.” The census mistakes and the huge population growth in Texas since have distorted the congressional districts.” The legislature was asked by Gov. Abbott to correct the issue by drawing new congressional district maps.
The theatrics of these wandering legislators are symptoms of ‘Trump Derangement Syndrome.’
Their issue is “power” as stated by Texas state Rep. César Blanco, D-El Paso in an article in the Texas Tribune back in 2020. The Wall Street Journal last Friday published Kevin Kiley (R-CA) commentary stating Gov. Newsom has recently “announced a plan to push aside the independent citizens Redistricting Commission established by California voters” for the express purpose of picking up five seats in Congress. To do this, Newsom must reject the expressed will of the voters and undercut democracy.
The Democrats are not interested in fairness, applying the law or defending democracy. They want control and are promoting the false narrative of a “Trump-Abbott voter suppression effort” for the purpose of creating confusion and disruption. Their rhetoric concerning ‘the fight to protect voting rights’ is empty. Inciting national attention to their theatrics is not democratic nor does it lead to effective discussion or conclusion on the issue of redistricting.
Voddie Baucham Jr. illuminates in his book Fault Lines what Joe Thomas, correspondent for the Daily Signal, calls “the dark brilliance of the progressive left.” There will be consequences for wandering legislators promoting false narratives.
Real justice requires truth.
