Volunteer Fire Departments Need Your Support

To The Editor:

This is the time of year the members of the local volunteer fire departments get busy working on their fundraising events. They are the busy men and women who work for a living, raise families, maintain their property and then find the extra time to take care of the rest of us. We depend on them for putting out fires and answering emergency pleas for help. Then they are also tasked with raising the money they need to keep their departments running smoothly and to buy new equipment. I have always enjoyed attending the annual feast and auction that our Round Top-Warrenton Volunteer Fire Department put together for our entertainment each May. It brought the community together for a good time, but I understand that volunteers were getting harder and harder to find. This year it is a raffle and request for donations by mail only.

It occurred to me when I learned about this that we the members of the community should be throwing a party for them. They have already done so much. So, let’s at least show them our gratitude and respect by responding with a generous donation. The volunteer fire departments in every community need a hearty “We Appreciate You” message.
