Views of Patriotism Differ

To the editor:

Mr. Mikus (regarding your letter last week) taking the vaccine has nothing to do with being patriotic.

I’ll start with a comment at the end of his letter, where he states, “It is now time for the display of our renown “small town” patriotism to save the lives of our fellow Americans in this great war against the pandemic by all Americans getting vaccinated now to be able to truly celebrate American freedom by Independence Day.” Your idea of patriotism and freedom are vastly different than mine. We are a free country, which means citizens can make their own choices about their health, including whether they choose to not take the COVID vaccine or any other vaccine or treatment. Our health choices are ours to make; not the government’s and certainly not by people whose only way to convince people is by hounding, bullying, guilting, shaming, name calling, or demeaning them because they have the audacity to make a different choice. What you are talking about is not freedom or patriotism but “totalitarianism which is a concept for a form of government or political system that prohibits opposition parties, restricts individual opposition to the state and its claims, and exercises an extremely high degree of control over public and private life.” All your letters to the Editor I’ve read have one common theme, it’s your way or more specifically the Democrat way only and the rest of us should be made to fall in line. To your point about honoring our military. Per Military.com a third of the military are refusing to take the vaccine. So, by your thought process, they are now unpatriotic? They, like everyone else who made a different choice about the vaccine, are exercising their freedom guaranteed by the Constitution. Tribe mentality-good grief you just insulted a good portion of Fayette County citizens specifically, and millions of people in the U.S. for not only their choice to be a Republican but also their Christian faith. It has been my experience that those that speak down to and insult those who think differently than them are both ignorant and false Christians. Who are you to judge anyone? That right belongs to God only. To your comment about “the numerous “Anti-Christ” comparisons to Trump one finds in the Bible.” Quote the scriptures.
