Trump’s Dangerous Allegations

To the Editor:

When Hillary Clinton lost the 2016 election in states by margins narrower than Trump’s 2020 losses, she and the Democrats didn’t cry fraud, file lawsuits or attempt to overturn the will of the people. Instead, she graciously conceded and respected the democratic voting process. Now, we have a Trump attorney, Joe diGinova stating, “Anybody who thinks the election went well, like that idiot Krebs who used to be the head of cybersecurity that guy is a class A moron. He should be drawn and quartered. Taken out at dawn and shot.” Secretaries of State and their families are being threatened for following the rules of their state and conducting fair elections.

Trump has been setting the stage for his rigged election propaganda since 2016. If he lost it was rigged, if he won it was a fair election. Now, his supporters continue to mimic Trump’s rhetoric with allegations that are not supported with verified facts.

Virtually all of the Trump lawsuits have been dismissed or withdrawn due to lack of evidence. To wit: “Free, fair elections are the lifeblood of our democracy. Charges of unfairness are serious. But calling an election unfair does not make it so. Charges require specific allegations and then proof. We have neither here,” 3rd Circuit Judge Stephanos Bibas, a Trump appointee, wrote for the three-judge panel, all appointed by Republican presidents. Thus far, there has been no evidence of widespread fraud and in one lawsuit Rudy Guiliani admitted that he was not alleging fraud.

Trump and his supporters are within their rights to pursue their legal protections under the law. However, they should cease their destructive rhetoric until they can present authenticated facts in a court of law.
