Trump Not Right Man for This Time
To the Editor:
Ms. Armstrong, here is the truth about the Lincoln Project. The founders are conservative operatives who have worked for years to get Republicans elected. They started out supporting Trump until they realized he was not honoring the presidential oath to “preserve, protect, & defend the Constitution of the United States.” Mr. Brower, this brings me to your question of how he has violated this number one duty of the office of the presidency. I do not have room to choose all the ways so, I’ll name a few.
The 1st Amendment protects religious beliefs and freedom of the press. Trump launched attacks on the press, on mosques, and on other institutions protected by the Bill of Rights. The 8th Amendment prevents the use of cruel and unusual punishment. Trump approves of water boarding and said it isn’t harsh enough. The 10th Amendment states that the Federal Government only has powers delegated in the Constitution. The other powers belong to the states or to the people. Trump declared a U. S. District judge unfit because he was Mexican. The Constitution protects the people’s right to peacefully protest, and Trump had the protesters tear gassed for a photo op.
Trump has insulted everyone from Gold Star families to disabled people. He has ignored ethic norms from use of taxpayer money for his own political rallies as evidenced by use of the White House for the Republican Convention.
Trump is definitely not the right man for this time. He lied about the seriousness of COVID-19 and still lies about it even though his carelessness has given it to him and numerous others in the White House. We need a man of values who will uphold his oath to the highest office in the land.
