Truck Traffic

To the editor:

Our State Senator and our County Judge both spoke for acceptance of Texas Senate Bill 1053 (restricting trucks on the bluff and the drive through Fayetteville). Historically, these two avenues have amounted to wrecks, and damaged property that is way above the norm. Two representatives from the trucking industry also spoke. As your article stated it did not raise much interest inside the Transportation Committee. Really? Why not? Did they listen to the tales of woe from the trucking industry about how much more it would cost to find a less intrusive route? Or was the Transportation Committee not interested because it was not in their backyard? Why listen to our Fayette County representatives who are on the site and have firsthand knowledge of the situation, when you can listen to companies who are only interested in the almighty dollar? We have a avenue by which the citizens of this state make our desires known, that is our representatives. I am disgusted at the notion that quality of life takes a backseat to making a buck by the trucking industry. Shame on you Texas Transportation Committee for sucking up to a company’s needs instead of your Texas citizens.
