Recently there has been a rash of comments concerning the sexually oriented books in our children’s libraries discussing LGBTQ oriented people. A person could spend hours analyzing both sides of the issue on what is appropriate for children and I don’t have hours to spend writing. The one issue that I have
The one issue that I have yet to see is why do we have to somehow inform the children of various life choices? The issue of how to inform children about sex has been on going for years with no results that makes everyone happy.
The one aspect of being a child is to be a child and see the world as a magical place. Do you tell a fourth grader that Santa Claus doesn’t exist and show them maps depicting the North Pole as a desolate place and no one can live there? How about the Easter Bunny and all the other childhood figures?
The point being is that children grow and do learn about various sexual orientations, but do we have to make sure we deprive children of wondrous things or do we have to pull a Dragnet quote out for them, “just the facts ma’am” and nothing else?
