Support the Shelter

Letters to the Editor

To the Editor:

I moved to La Grange because it’s a vibrant community built on shared values, and chief among them is the compassion we extend to every living person and creature. It reflects the heart of the community.

I discovered at the core of this compassionate spirit stands the Gardenia E. Janssen Animal Shelter (GJAS). A bustling hub of dedicated professionals and tireless volunteers. These first responders work tirelessly on the front lines, transforming despair into hope for countless animals (1,682 in 2024) and people. Their impact provides Fayette County with a healthier, safer, and more compassionate environment.

The first responsibility of our City Leaders is public safety. As residents of La Grange and Fayette County, we, too, have a responsibility to help keep our community safe. Sadly, our City Leaders are not going to support this important public safety service, nor low cost spay and neuter, nor community efforts for TNR. Therefore, it’s up to US to ensure our community’s wellbeing. The shelter needs our support and offers an easy way to donate and not get out of my recliner, is through being a monthly supporter.
