Story Covered The Right Way
To the Editor:
Coverage of the recent school board meeting (“Parent Seeking Removal of Certain Library Books,” Record, Oct. 22, 2021) was the perfect opportunity for a sensational soundbite slam. It could have made a caricature of the mom or of the school system – either way.
But you didn’t. Instead you quoted the mother extensively, allowing her to give nuance and rationale for her request. And you quoted school policy verbatim, giving your readers the context required to better understand the issue.
Congratulations. This is what newspapers can and should do to inform, rather than inflame. Well done.
