Saint Michael’s Lutheran Church in Winchester is having a drive-thru BBQ pork steak dinner with all the trimmings on Sunday, Oct. 25, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Saint Michael’s Park (310 Frio Street, Winchester, TX). Advance meal tickets will be sold for $10 and guaranteed until 12 p.m. The deadline to purchase advance tickets is Thursday, Oct. 15. All proceeds will benefit Saint Michael’s mission projects and the upkeep of Saint Michael’s Park.

Octoberfest

The Faith Lutheran High School will be hosting a familyfriendly event on Saturday, Oct. 24, at the Holy Cross Picnic grounds in Warda. The event may look different than in years past, so watch for more details in this column.

Barn Board Quilt Class

There was a lot of interest in the September class, so one has been scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 24, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Zilss Hall in Winchester. If you are interested, please register on the website at www. quiltblocktrail.com. The class provides all supplies required and registration is $50 per person. The class will adhere to all requirement of COVID-19. For more information, please contact Rhoda Gersch at (979) 242-3213.

Round Table Book Club

The book club will meet on Tuesday, Oct. 20, at 7 p.m. at Zilss Hall. The October book to be discussed is “The Silent Patient” by Alex Michaelides. The books for the remainder of the calendar year are “Keeper of Lost Things” by Ruth Hogan for November and “American Dirt” by Jeanine Cummins for December.

Barn Board Quilt Trail

The quilt block trail in Winchester can now be seen at www. quiltblocktrail.com. Schedules of classes and class registration forms, pictures and the trail map are just some of the items available for viewing. A comment section is being developed. Quilt Trail maps can be found at the Museum, Casino Hall, the Wendish Museum, quilt stores and other businesses in Giddings, Smithville and La Grange. The trail is self-drive, is available at your convenience and is a great way to spend an afternoon during this COVID-19 social distancing time. You will find the blocks on fences, gates, barns and houses that can be seen from the road.

Recycling Trailer

The Winchester Recycling trailer is located on the Memorial Hall Street side of Zilss Hall. Please place your recycling in the appropriate bins. We would appreciate that you make sure that you close the bins so that any trash will remain in the bins and not blow out.

Zilss Community Hall

Anyone wishing to rent Zilss Hall should contact (512) 434-0292. The hall is following COVID-19 requirements. Rent is very reasonable.

The Little Free Library

The library is always open and has a variety of authors. Space is limited, so please, if you donate a book(s), look through the current selection and take as many as you leave. The Little Free Library is housed under the roof of the patio at Zilss Hall. There is also a bulletin board available on the patio. If you have an event you would like advertised, please post.

FUMC

The Winchester First United Methodist Church will return to service inside the sanctuary. Pease wear a mask and social distance inside the church. The Church has services on the first and third Sunday of the month at 8:30 a.m. The Rev. Patricia Zaiontz-Newcomer is the pastor.

Shiloh Baptist Church
