Pentecost Potluck
The parishes of St. Mary and St. John recently held a Pentecost Potluck for a joint celebration for the birthday of the church, those newly initiated Catholics who came into the church at Easter Vigil and Father Steve’s 13th anniversary to the priesthood. The vocation awareness team helped organize the event and had multiple vocational posters and information around for those in attendance to view. The team helps to raise awareness of the call to be a priest or religious sister.
FISD
At the recent Lion’s Club meeting, Fayetteville ISD Superintendent, Dr. Jeff Harvey, expressed his disappointment that the Texas Legislature was unable to put Texas public school students and teachers first when given the record budget surplus they were working with. “Instead, HB 100, an education funding bill, that would have provided almost $5 billion to Texas public schools to increase teacher pay and combat rising costs due to inflation, was hijacked by the Senate when they attached private school education savings accounts to the bill,” stated Harvey. “Additionally, language was added to HB 100, essentially eliminating school district boundary lines and removing local control from local school boards.
“As a result of the changes, the bill was sent to a conference committee where the House and Senate could not reconcile the differences, killing the bill,” he said. “Sadly, our Texas public school students and teachers are the ones punished because of politics. As American citizens, it’s important that we remain informed, rather than influenced, and we make our voices heard.” If you want to reach out to our State Representative Stan Kitzman and State Senator Lois Kilkhorst, please write to these email addresses: stan.kitzman@house.
